THUGS are a group of normal (?) average handicap golfers who enjoy a good drink and a good laugh, as well as a regular 18 holes. Our society is based around an annual Majorca trip plus weekly get togethers.

Discover what fun we get up to on our Mallorca trips by viewing our annual YouTube videos on the Pics & Vids page!

From 2015 members will now be able to access a live and regularly updated competition leader board. This should be of particular use to those members unable to travel who still like to keep abreast of the latest scores.  In previous years this has proved difficult to administer, however new web-authoring software should make the task far simpler and more reliable.  More HERE

Mallorca 2022 Date Change

sonvida2.jpg

In order to ensure we can include as many members as possible on the Mallorca 2022 tour we have decided to push the trip back to Sunday 9th October. This will allow long standing members who were struggling with the original date to continue to support the event with their presence.

More details will be available once flight times have been confirmed.

Adie Retains The Pink Jacket!

adie pja.jpg

After an enforced Covid break from Mallorca in 2020, normal service resumed as we returned to the island for our 2021 tour.

Whilst different in many ways, the tour was a great success, and our return was a welcome one.

Adie Cartwright picked up from where he left off by retaining the Pink Jacket as overall winner, with each daily competition producing a different victor.

Restrictions have eased, and we can now get back to enjoying our regular social nights.

August 6th sees us visit Spice Lounge in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

More details available from Graham Wilson.

THUGS to adopt WHS handicaps?

OIP.jpg

Our secretary has recently been mulling over the benefits of possibly changing our Society handicapping system to fall closer in line to that of the World Handicap System introduced in the UK in 2020.

The results at first glance appear very interesting, and no doubt a change will be proposed very soon. More Here

The 'Big Bash' cricket social is back for 2021

lccc.jpg

After the disappointments of a rained-off Roses match, and the restrictions of 2020, we can now look forward to the Lancashire Vs Northants 20/20 tie on Friday 9th July 2021. Beer, fun, cricket and food will be the order of the day, and further details will appear on the News page as Jim Wilson begins to bring the schedule for the day together.

Monarch Comment   The collapse of Monarch Airlines unfortunately came as no surprise. A reputation for terrible customer service and regular delays proved hard to shake off, despite new investment and a recent significant improvement in punctuality.

The demise of the Airline is a huge loss to the UK, in particular for the many staff rendered jobless by the ineptitude and stubbornness of the senior management. After several delays which left our society frustrated, out of pocket, and having to re-plan our schedules at the last minute we were forced to take Monarch to court to obtain compensation for two flights on which we were subjected to eight hour delays and a huge pack of lies as an excuse. Inevitably this practice brings about customer dissatisfaction and lack of confidence, and the Airline suffers.

Monarch's routes and times proved very useful to us, and it is hoped that another Airline picks up those slots vacated by them, however it has left us and others with one less option to choose when organising our Mallorca trip.

It would appear that our flight home from the 2017 trip was the last ever flight associated with Monarch, which is a great shame when the Airline offered so much potential, but was administered by a greedy, uncaring top brass.
